Canadian Pulse Supplier — What Buyers Should Expect

Lakshmi Commodities Inc. is a federally registered Canadian commodity trading company based in Hamilton, Ontario, supplying bulk lentils, Kabuli chickpeas and yellow peas from CGC-licensed elevators across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. This page explains how sourcing from a Canadian supplier works — grades, origin, documentation, container loading and trade terms — so you can compare offers on equal footing.

Why buyers source pulses from Canada

Canada is the world's largest exporter of lentils and dry peas, and a leading supplier of Kabuli chickpeas. The Prairie growing region combines long summer days with a dry harvest window, which delivers low moisture at binning, bright natural colour and consistent seed size. For importers, the practical advantages are predictable quality across shipments, an internationally recognised grading system, and a mature rail and container corridor from the Prairies to the Port of Vancouver.

How an order runs, step by step

  1. 1. Enquiry. Send product, grade, quantity, destination port and Incoterm. We reply with a firm indication within one business day.
  2. 2. Sample and specification. Where required, we forward a representative sample and agree the contract specification: grade, moisture, foreign material, sizing and packing.
  3. 3. Contract. Terms are fixed in a written sales contract, supply is locked with our Prairie network, and the vessel window out of Vancouver is confirmed.
  4. 4. Processing and loading. Cargo is cleaned, graded, bagged or lined, and stuffed into containers under supervision. Third-party inspection is arranged if agreed.
  5. 5. Documentation and shipment. CGC certificate, CFIA phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin, bill of lading, invoice and packing list are issued and couriered or presented to the bank.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a Canadian pulse supplier different from other origins?

Canada is the world's largest exporter of lentils and peas. Crops are grown in the semi-arid Prairie provinces, which produces low-moisture, bright, uniform seed. Every export lot can be certified by the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) for official grade and weight, and by the CFIA for plant health — a documentation package most competing origins cannot match consistently.

Which Canadian pulses does Lakshmi Commodities supply?

Red lentils (Football and Crimson types), green lentils (Laird, Richlea and Eston), Kabuli chickpeas in 7mm to 10mm calibrations, and whole yellow peas. All products are machine cleaned and graded to CGC standards.

What documents come with each shipment?

CGC official grade and weight certificate, CFIA phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin, bill of lading, commercial invoice and packing list. Third-party pre-shipment inspection by SGS or Intertek is available on request.

What is the minimum order from a Canadian supplier?

We trade in full container loads — roughly 24 to 27 metric tonnes per 20-foot container, in 25kg or 50kg bags or bulk-in-liner. Multi-container and repeat monthly programmes are available for regular buyers.

Which Incoterms and payment terms are available?

CIF to nominated destination ports and CPT Vancouver. Payment by irrevocable LC at sight through a reputable bank, or TT in advance for smaller lots.

How long does shipping take from Canada?

Container transit from the Port of Vancouver is typically 24 to 32 days to Nhava Sheva, 28 to 35 days to Chittagong, and 22 to 28 days to Jebel Ali, subject to vessel schedules and transhipment.
